Online Classes- Things To Know
Thank you for joining us!
Here are a few things to help you get the most out of your online yoga experience:
Verbal Cues and Demonstrations:
During the class, I will be instructing you with verbal cues to guide you through each pose. I will also demonstrate the poses as much as possible, so you can see and understand the movements clearly.
1. Comfortable Clothing:
Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. Avoid clothing that restricts your range of motion.
2. Props:
Have yoga blocks or alternatives ready. If you don’t have yoga blocks, you can use sturdy household items such as couch pillows, rolled-up towels, or books.
Blanket: Keep a small blanket handy for savasana (final relaxation).
Privacy and Focus:
You will not see each other on the video call unless you set it up that way on your side. However, it is recommended to have only me, the instructor, on your view. This setup ensures privacy for all participants and helps you focus on the correct way to move into a pose.
For video calls we will be using Google Meet. I will send you a link and if need be I can help guide through the set upprovided we do so a atleast acfew minutes before the class starts, but preferably well in advance so we can ensure the class can start on time for everyone else also joining the class.
1. Accessing the Class:
Option 1: Join Online
- You can join the class directly from your computer or laptop by clicking on the meeting link provided.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
Option 2: Download the Google Meet App
- For a better experience, download the Google Meet app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Search for “Google Meet” on your app store and install it.
- Use the meeting link to join the class.
2. Technical Requirements:
- A device with a camera and microphone (most computers and smartphones have these built-in).
- A stable internet connection.
- Headphones (optional, but recommended for better audio quality).
3. Class Etiquette:
- Please mute your microphone when not speaking.
- Find a quiet space where you can practice without interruptions.
- Have a yoga mat and any necessary props ready.
Ideal Camera Placement:
- Height: Place the camera at a higher angle, tilting downwards this will provide a better view of most of your body whether in standing or sitting asanas.
- Angle: Aim the camera slightly downward, creating a diagonal line from the camera to your body. This helps to show the full length of your body
- Distance: Position the camera about 1-1.5 meters, or further if possible, away from your mat. This helps to get more of you in the frame.
Additional Tips:
- Play around with different angles and distances to find what works best for you in the space you are using to practice.
1. Flexibility:
Private sessions are ideal for those who cannot make the group class times and need to arrange a specific time that is more convenient for them.
2. Duration:
These sessions can last up to 1.5 hours, providing ample time for a thorough practice.
3. Customised Practice:
They are perfect if you prefer a more customised practice tailored to your specific needs and goals.
4. Special Requirements:
Private sessions are especially beneficial if you have injuries or specific conditions that require personalised attention and modifications.
Package Rates:
For single private sessions (one session only) the cost is R250 per 1.5hour session. A friend may join at an extra cost of R50 per person.
A package rate can be negotiated for private sessions, offering a certain set amount of classes for a reduced rate.
Cost Difference: The cost of private sessions is higher due to the personalized, one-on-one attention and the flexibility to schedule at your convenience.
Community Experience: Group classes offer a sense of community and shared energy, which can be motivating and uplifting.
I keep the online group classes to 6 or less participants so that I am able to view everyone simultaneously and assess if anyone needs to adjust their postures for safety and to get the maximum benefit from a specific pose.
1. These classes are held at set times, making it easier for you to integrate them into their weekly routine.
2. Group classes provide general instruction that accommodates various skill levels, ensuring everyone can participate and benefit.
3. Affordability: Group classes are generally more affordable than private sessions due to the shared nature of the instruction.
4. Cost: Group sessions are R95 per person.
Private Sessions:
Choose private sessions if you need scheduling flexibility, require a customised practice, have specific injuries or conditions, or prefer personalised attention. Consider package rates for additional savings.
Group Classes:
Choose group classes if you enjoy a community atmosphere, prefer a structured schedule, and are looking for a cost-effective option.
- Test your audio and video before the class starts.
- Arrive a few minutes early to settle in.
- Enjoy your practice!
